Importing Personal and Household effects into South Africa
Household and personal effects may be imported into the Republic of South Africa duty free for immigrants, returning residents (who have been out of South Africa longer than six months) and temporary residents.
Temporary Residents will only be allowed duty-free importation if they are in possession of a valid temporary work permit.
Owner of the shipment must be in South Africa at least 15 days prior to the arrival of the shipment in order to start the customs clearance process, as documents have to be handed to customs 10 days prior to the arrival of the vessel.

Transit Times
Groupage – share a container service to 6-12 weeks door to door
Sole use containers 3 to 4 weeks port to port. There is a weekly service for FCL’s.

Customs Clearance
Customs clearance will take between 5 to10 days, and will depend upon the volumes at customs, and their work loads.
